I had never attended a Food Blogger conference or festival before and I was really excited when I found out I was going to be in the Bay Area the same weekend as the 2012 FoodBuzz Blogger Festival. So of course I made the preparations to attend the event and check it out. The festival was hosted by the popular DailyBuzz media company and included numerous events such as Dine About Town on Friday night in San Francisco, where the food bloggers got a chance to taste the best restaurants all around the city. Each blogger even received $50 to spend at the restaurant of their choice! Saturday morning, bloggers gathered at the Ferry building for a Farmer’s Market Excursion and Scavenger hunt. To wrap up the festival, there was even a gala on Saturday night at the California Academy of Sciences….
The warm summer weather in Southern California has extended into fall, which means you can still purchase summer fruit at the market! In the last attempt to enjoy the flavors of summer in a sweet pie, I grabbed my favorite stone fruit; peaches, nectarines and plums. I topped the pie with my favorite ginger pecan and almond crumble, and at last, the endless summer ginger crumble and stone fruit pie was created….
The French Laundry is a 3 Michelin star American restaurant with qualities reminiscent of the French countryside. The owner happens to be world renowned Chef Thomas Keller who brought his culinary memories from France and transplanted them in the wine country of Napa Valley. Not only does chef Andrés own the restaurant, but his company the ThinkFoodGroup actually owns the SLS hotel and several other popular luxury hotel and dining combinations….
When figs make their appearance at the farmer’s market I always look forward to eating them whole, or combining them with my two other favorite fall ingredients; beets and goat cheese. For this recipe I decided to create a fun and colorful salad to celebrate the transition of seasons. My creation is a crispy fried goat cheese salad with sweet figs, roasted beets and orange poppy seed vinaigrette….
