The French Laundry is a 3 Michelin star American restaurant with qualities reminiscent of the French countryside. The owner happens to be world renowned Chef Thomas Keller who brought his culinary memories from France and transplanted them in the wine country of Napa Valley. Jason and I shared a 1 year anniversary lunch at the French Laundry and below are a couple photos of the surroundings.
The French Laundry is located in the small town of Yountville, where it resides in a historic 1600 square foot building, built in 1900. The building is constructed with the valley’s local river rock and timber while the grounds around the restaurant are surrounded by honeysuckle and climbing roses. Before you enter the ‘blue door’ of the restaurant there is a lush green courtyard that invites you to relax and enjoy the smells and tranquility before your culinary experience begins. The courtyard is also a nice place to take a break during and after your meal. Thomas Keller took over the property in 1994, but previously the building had been utilized as a residence, French steam laundry, saloon, brothel, and restaurant.
The French Laundry has a frequently changing menu that is supported by a special garden which just happens to be located directly across the street from the restaurant. The garden is headed by Tucker Taylor, a culinary gardener in charge of planning, planting and harvesting the garden. The fresh produce grown here is exclusively for The French laundry, Bouchon Bakery and Ad hoc Restaurant. These are two other famous restaurants owned by Thomas Keller which are located just down the street.
The grass lined garden makes it easy for the gardener Tuck Taylor to tend to and spectators to take a stroll and enjoy.

The menu created by the French Laundry Chef’s are unique because no single item is repeated throughout the menu. This pushes the chef’s to be innovative and allows the guests to be delighted by variety with each visit being unique and surprising.
