As the arrival of Baby Gavin is only a few weeks away, Jason and I decided to celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary in Palm Springs, CA. This quick weekend getaway is nice because it’s only an hour and a half from our house. We get time to catch up on the road, but not spend too much time traveling.
The drive to Palm Springs is always interesting as you get to see the endless miles of windmills along the 10 freeway. Jason always gets tempted to stop by the Morongo or Agua Caliente casinos along the way, and I always ask kiddingly if we should we put all our money on black on the roulette table, haha. No stops for us, this time, as we wanted to get poolside as quickly as possible to cool off from the blistering desert heat!
We arrived at the beautiful JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort just before lunch time, eager to change into bathing suits and relax by the pool as it was already almost 100 degrees! This resort has it all. It’s located on a golf course so you can tee off and spend the day on the greens. There’s also a nice spa if you feel like getting pampered.
We haven’t done it yet, but you can take a boat ride along the waterway that circles the entire resort. Jason is a big fan of the gorgeous exotic bird collection they have in the main lobby. We decided to play it simple and grab a shaded spot at the pool and order margaritas for Jason & virgin lava flows for me.
After relaxing for a few hours, we then headed to the charming downtown Palm Springs for the remainder of the day to grab some food and try to stay cool. I can always spot an ice cream shop a mile away, so I had to stop for a couple of scoops of coffee heath bar crunch to satisfy my sweet tooth. It also helped us cool down as the temperature was nearing 110 degrees!
For lunch, we were recommended to try one of the hidden gems in Palm Springs, a classic French restaurant called Le Vallauris. Located in a cozy restored historical landmark just off the main downtown streets. We got to dine al fresco in their beautiful romantic and intimate courtyard. Next time we visit Palm Springs, we both agreed that we need to return and try the dinner menu.
Jason and I were able to reminisce about the past 3 years being married, and over 10 years being together! We couldn’t believe how much things have changed in just the past year. We bought our first home, we both launched new designs for our websites (my food blog and Jason’s Ford enthusiast site), and we were able to return to Bora Bora for our Babymoon.
It’s been such an exciting and rewarding year, and now we have a little one on the way! We know that things are certainly going to be different, but we are excited to learn and grow together in our relationship and our family. We can’t believe we are going to be parents (yikes!) and get the chance to share all the things we love with Baby Gavin.
When I woke up the morning of our anniversary, I felt so lucky and overjoyed to see the man I love still peacefully dreaming away and feeling the baby gently kick in my tummy. The start of this next year together is certainly going to be filled with lots of surprises and challenges, but we are incredibly excited to finally meet and welcome our little one into our lives. More adventures to come for the Gavin Family!
