Look at this beautiful woman—what a special treat! This year, for Mother’s Day, Jason and I traveled to Florida to spend some quality time with his grandparents, Rose and Joseph Puglisi. It is always a fun trip to visit Jason’s grandparents.
One of the nights, we attended The Show Palace Dinner Theatre for “Book of Love, A Doo Wop Romance,” which was like a live musical of my favorite movie, Grease! We also visited with their friends for dinner and drove down to Tarpon Springs for gyros.

And, of course, we spent four days eating delicious home-cooked meals and snacking on lots of cookies! If you know my husband, you’ll see he can’t get enough Italian food. Jason always requests homemade meatballs on every visit to Florida, and his grandma doesn’t hesitate to prepare a fresh batch for him.
Grandma Rose is an avid gardener, growing fresh vegetables like eggplants, Swiss chard, and basil, which she likes to add to her home-cooked meals!

Grandma’s meatball recipe has the right meat-to-breadcrumb ratio. For dinner, we had shrimp cocktails, meatballs, and spaghetti, and every meal was followed by coffee and an endless tin of cookies.

This is a very tasty meal indeed! I hope to figure out the recipe for Grandma’s meatballs eventually. My experiments at home are always so close, but nothing beats the original from Jason’s grandma.

Rose and Joe recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Don’t they still look cute together? What an inspiration! On another note, don’t you think Jason looks precisely like his grandpa? Haha.

It was great catching up with Jason’s grandparents, and I hope to see them again soon! Thanks for having us over and for sharing many great life stories of your past, I always feel I learn so much from grandpa’s words of wisdom and grandma’s encouragement in the kitchen. Grazie!
